This blog covers a few birds we saw in California Gulch and an evening at the Amado STP. (I thought STP meant State Park). I posted a mislabeled bird on my last bog and no one responded to the Hermit Thrush which was actually a Swainson's Thrush. I also called A Black-chinned Hummingbird a Black-throated Hummingbird but I didn't mean to do that. That was just oldziemers kicking in. Total list count for the trip now stands at 291.
Vermillion Flycatcher- California Gulch |
Western Tanager-California Gulch |
Olive-sided Flycatcher-Arivaca Lake |
Brewers Sparrow-part of a flock of 6 on the road to Montosa Canyon |
Cooper's Hawk-outside our condo in Green Valley. A pair have a nest here. |
Cooper's Hawk |
Verdin-Montosa |
Tropical Kingbird-Montosa The following pictures were taken at Amado STP at 7PM May 3. These are just record shots taken at a distance too far for my little camera. |
A flock of 14 White-faced Ibis flew over at the Amado STP in the morning. |
Neotropical Cormorant |
Wilson's Phalaropes were getting anxious to migrate. |
And off they go. Heading north. This was about half the total birds that were there. I searched through the flock but can't see any Red-necks. |
Cattle Egret |
Scaup-Greater or Lesser? |
End of this Blog. Scroll down for previous blog.
My totally uneducated guess is greater scaup. Head seems to be roundish and bill is somewhat thickish.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on hitting 300!
Quenton-your guess is far from uneducated. Thanks for the input.
ReplyDeleteHi Len, compare your shot to my comparison shot of both Greater and Lesser Scaup here: http://azfo.org/gallery/2014/html03/GRSC_AmadoWTP_Medina_04_May_2014_635350230720146002.html
ReplyDeleteIMO it looks good for GRSC.
